Macrophotography on lighttable, coloured cel-sheets

Fruit and vegetables transported to Europe often have long journeys behind them and undergo various aestheticization processes until they are ripe for European consumers and their viewing habits. The close-up images of tomatoes, bananas, and oranges created in the Space for Visual Research are not intended to reveal what is depicted at first glance. The images are printed on A1paper and encourage the viewer to come closer and read the additional information printed in 12-point font in the lower right corner. This clarifies what fruit or vegetable is depicted and provides additional information about the process behind it. Arrival in European supermarkets is the last step of the journey and only the tip of the iceberg of a complex system that the end consumer is unaware of. The photographs were taken with different colored foils as a background to further alienate the object.
